A lady phoned us saying she had found a wooden box in the woods
(By a river) when she was walking her dog, inside was a small albino ferret,
which did not seem able to walk properly on its back legs and
could we help? Unfortunately a car was not available for two
hours so she offered to bring the ferret to us.

when she arrived we could see the ferret was in a very poor condition
and would require veterinary attention, as soon as possible.
Considering what some human had inflicted on her
she had every right to hate us and to take her anger out on us,
but she did not bite us once, all she wanted,
was to be held and stroked. In such a short time,
she stole all of our hearts.

All we wanted was to get her better and into a new home so
we took her to the vets never imagining we would never bring her
home again, but it was terrible news our vet said she had
probably been kicked before being put into the box,
she had a burst bladder and internal injuries
and there was nothing she could do for the little ferret
the only thing that could be done was to put her to sleep.

There were many tears shed for the ferret that we had came to love,
as we held her for one last time as the vet put an end to her suffering, and
anger for the person who had done this to her. No matter how many
ferrets we rescue we always remember the ones we could not save
like the little ferret we did not have time to name.
But did have time to love.
